Paul Knight will talk through
ideas concerning two main working areas of his practice, photography and weaving. Knight makes works which extend out of the
domestic sphere and use quotidian objects and situations to engage with broader and narrowing ideas of politics and the sublime.
Knight will discuss the intimate potential of both these forms and their shared inversion between
perceived flatness and spatial volume.
Knight holds an MFA from the Glasgow School of Art (2009) and that same
year he was selected for the New Contemporaries Exhibitions (UK). His work has also been included in the 13th Dong Gang International
Photo Festival (Korea): Melbourne Now survey at the National Galleries of Victoria (Australia): NEW08, Australian Centre for
Contemporary Art: Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art (Scotland): Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (Australia):
Chelsea Art Museum (USA): Museum of Contemporary Art (Australia): Palazzo delle Arti Napoli (Italy).
Currently
Knight is working on two projects involving his textile works. One an exhibition of artists reflecting on the legacy of the
Bauhaus a century on and the other a major exhibition with Neon Parc (Australia). Knight is also finalising the publication
of a book with designer Roland Brauchli and writer Emma Capps. The publication will be a collation of text and images spanning
10 years, which relate to his Chamber Music series of photographs and come from an ever-expanding archive chronicling the
life he shares with his partner. Publication date mid 2018.
