AP – Angewandte Praxis

Welcome to a ludic deconstruction of greenness studies!

The cultural theorist and curator Jens Hauser (Paris/University of Copenhagen) will open the discourse with Margarete Jahrmann as guest professor for artistic research in 2018 about Ungreening Greenness? In this second evening of a ludic method soirée we address a new form of playful (OU)VERT in science of science that targets into the eye of the tiger of bio and digital arts.
Are we ‘green’? The entanglement between symbolic green, ontological greenness and performative greening poses challenges across disciplines that provide a colourful panorama for playful debunking: ‘green’, “symbolically” associated with the ‘natural’ and employed to hyper-compensate for what humans have lost, will be addressed as the most anthropocentric of all colours. There has been little reflection upon greenness’ migration across different knowledge cultures, meanwhile we are green-washing greenhouse effects away.

Architecture order socials processes via its semantic associations as much as via physical separation and connection. Agent Based Parametric Semiology researches semiology as an explicit design agenda that understands the contemporary design process as an opportunity to design a new, coherent system of signification without relying on old familiar codes.
The research sets up agent-based life process simulations in order to develop a new approach to architectural design that better engages with the challenges of today’s networked society.

Interdisziplinäre Lichtvermessung
Andrea Graser
25. Oktober 2017, 17:00
1010 Wien, Herrengasse 6–8, Stiege 3, Top 14

Social robotics and visual narrative in tandem

AIL – Angewandte Innovation Laboratory

As a pilot project for the WTZ-Ost at the University of Vienna, junior researcher Glenda and visual artist and illustrator Solmaz met on a regular basis to collaborate on the science communication of the emerging research area of social robotics. In this talk they will present the collaborative processes and theoretical perspectives leading to the creation of their 3D illustration of four fictional near-future human-robot scenarios. Stressing the importance of creating an immersive experience for the spectators, they developed new skills and reached a deeper understanding of how to bring art and science together.

A discourse evening in a playful “Ludic” format on arts research, science and epistemic things.

The structural coupling of methods and disciplines offers a new form of discourse in the public realm of arts research. But how can we consider performative practice and installations as experimental systems in order to generate artistic artefacts as epistemic objects. Where lies the significance of the analysis of “big” arts research data – from outer space and inner worlds – as “science of science” in ludic and artistic research?

Radical Matter in Art, Philosophy and the Wild Sciences
Johnny Golding (Royal College of Art, London), Martin Reinhart (Vienna), Florian Unterberger (Vienna)
10. Jänner 2018, 17:00

Johnny Golding is a philosopher focusing on Radical Matter in art, philosophy and what she names ‘the wild sciences‘. Together with Martin Reinhart she is the master mind behind the DATA LOAM project which deals with new concepts for knowledge systems that are designed to embody a critical intermediality of objects, facts, materials, ephemera, technology and matter. Together with Vienna based artist Florian Unterberger, Johnny and Martin will introduce their project and discuss how it provides new tools in practiceled research that both account for the process of making and capture knowledge previously lost in the jungle of big data.
