OPERA TO THE PEOPLE: LIFT EVERY VOICE.

Opera is often considered expensive, exclusive and homogenous. For this lecture and discussion, Carmen C. Kruse, founder of Civic Opera Creations will ask: Can opera lift every voice? What are the challenges in addressing elitism in performance art?

Award-winning stage director Carmen C. Kruse grew up in Carinthia and Hamburg. Her work is characterized by a psychological examination of broad social issues and their effects on the individual. Fed by first-hand reports, she creates immersive worlds that inspire, empower and connect.

In the context of June Pride Month, Kruse will share insights into her current 3 year project “Queer Stories of Joy” with the Volksoper Vienna and insights into past projects with Theater Münster, Nikkikai Opera Theatre Tokyo, Bregenzer Festspiele, Baden-Baden Osterfestspiele and the Festival d'Aix en Provence.

The lecture and discussion will be in English and German as needed.
