Angewandte Festival 2026

As part of the festival, the University of Applied Arts Vienna will present final-year projects and a diverse range of projects from the fields of art, design and research in curated exhibitions from 1 July to 4 July 2026.

Oskar-Kokoschka-Platz will be closed to traffic – for the four days of the festival, it will become a gathering place, a meeting point for guided tours, a stage and an exhibition venue. With unfinished business, a multifaceted intervention by the Department of Language Art, a space composed of language and speech is created there. Who speaks to whom? And to whom not? What worlds underpin the show? The square, as a place of gathering, can be static, can serve as a symbol – or we can keep it unfinished: a space that emerges through dialogue. A space composed of language and speech.

The festival offers an insight into current debates in the fields of art, design, architecture and society. A multidisciplinary programme ties in with the exhibitions and demonstrates how the University of Applied Arts provides cross-disciplinary impetus to society.

Angewandte Festival Day 1

Opening and music programme
On Wednesday, 1 July at 4.00 pm, the Angewandte Festival 2026 will officially open with unfinished business by the Institute for Language Art at Oskar-Kokoschka-Platz (with ÖGS sign language interpreting), followed by a performative reading and exhibition openings. Following this, the music programme on the square begins, transforming the square into a communal open-air dance floor.
Paulusplatz Day on Thursday, 2 July, brings together diploma presentations and a performance programme from the departments of Site-Specific Art and Sculpture and Space. As the exhibition draws to a close, an animated film screening (at 9.00 pm) will take place in the courtyard of the main building on Oskar-Kokoschka-Platz.
On Friday, 3 July, the square will host another music programme, inviting visitors to spend the evening at Oskar-Kokoschka-Platz.
The final day, Saturday 4 July, offers another opportunity to discover the diversity of the Angewandte’s artistic works and disciplines in the department exhibitions.
