About Design Investigations

Design Investigations at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, led by Prof. Anab Jain, is a five-year design diploma that transcends traditional industrial design boundaries. We prepare tomorrow's designers by expanding their toolkit to shape technological, social, and ecological futures. From data to biology, politics to AI—our students engage with an ever-evolving design landscape, embracing limitless possibilities.

The Topic, Summer Semester 2026

In Summer 2026, Design Investigations turns its attention to one of the most loaded objects in design history: the chair.

We invite our students to design a chair - it can be functional, dysfunctional, absurd, poetic, political, or deeply personal — as long as it reveals a position, asks a question.

We’re seeking a guest tutor who is an experienced craftsperson and maker, as well as a conceptual thinker, who can help students bring bold ideas into material life.
