Save the date: Festival
opening and press preview on 1 July 2026.
From 1 to 4 July 2026, the University
of Applied Arts Vienna presents a rich programme of exhibitions, final projects, readings, workshops, performance, music and
film screenings, showcasing artistic and scholarly work by its students and offering insight into current discourses in art,
design, architecture and society.
Across four festival days, the Angewandte’s departments and institutes
will open their doors at all university locations and can be visited individually or as part of guided tours. All Angewandte
Festival events are open to the public and free of charge.
Under the title unfinished business,
students from the Institute of Language Arts will devote this year’s festival focus to the linguistic exploration of what
is missing, on Oskar-Kokoschka-Platz in front of the university building—conceived as a space for visitors, passers-by and
the public. Who speaks to whom? Who doesn’t? Which worlds sustain this square? Where is there still urgent work to be done?
Students’ texts can be heard in the square, are on display and can even be taken away. Twice a day, a radio show fills the
square with sound; writers produce ad hoc commissioned texts for visitors, who can also have books prescribed for any life
situation. Texts are spoken in chorus, condensed, and linger in the air. In this way, a place shaped by language and speaking
emerges.
