International Symposium CROSSING BORDERS

Central European Women in the Arts

As part of the program accompanying the MAK exhibition STARS, FEATHERS, TASSELS. The Wiener Werkstätte Artist Felice Rix-Ueno (1893-1967), the MAK and the University of Applied Arts Vienna have organized the International Symposium CROSSING BORDERS: Central European Women in the Arts, which will take place on January 25 and 26 in the MAK auditorium.
Taking as its starting point the transnational career of the artist Felice Rix-Ueno, which she began in Vienna, Austria, and successfully continued in Kyoto, Japan, the symposium will examine cultural transfer in the works of Central European women designers and artists who have crossed borders.

Contributions to the symposium explore the multifaceted careers of women in the arts and reflect on phenomena of cultural transformation, integration processes, and complex identities. The aim is to discuss the role of museums in presenting the rich biographies of these artists and designers in the context of a stimulating public debate.

Concept and organization by Elana Shapira (University of Applied Arts Vienna) and Anne-Katrin Rossberg (MAK) in cooperation with Barbora Kundračíková (Olomouc Museum of Art - Central European Forum).
