On
behalf of the University of Applied Arts Vienna, Rector Gerald Bast is pleased to announce that Olga Grjasnowa has been appointed
as new professor at the Institute of Language Arts. The writer, who currently lives in Berlin and has won many awards, will
take up her position on March 1, 2023. "I am very excited to spend five years at Angewandte supporting students in their writing
and development and to work with them and my new colleagues to continually rethink new cultural, political, and social perspectives
and approaches. Language arts is the discipline that confronts the social challenges of our present, past and future at the
same time," said Grjasnowa in her first statement.
Olga Grjasnowa is the author of novels, essays,
radio dramas, and theater works. Her books have been translated into over fifteen languages, dramatized for theater and radio,
and adapted for film. Grjaznova's expertise lies in prose, drama, and essays, although she devotes much of her artistic and
jury work to poetry. Experience as a visiting professor at the German Literature Institute in Leipzig, the Swiss Literature
Institute, and Lafayette College in the U.S. shows her an experienced teacher. She has also taught at the Angewandte for three
semesters.
